                                           DECLARATION OF SOLIDARITY
WITH THE SOVEREIGN STANDING ROCK SIOUX NATION
IN RESISTANCE TO THE DAKOTA ACCESS PIPELINE

Veterans For Peace Bellingham, Washington, stands in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux; Seven Sacred Fires of the Great Lakota Nation; hundreds of allied Indian tribes, and thousands of supporters that have joined in resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline at Standing Rock, North Dakota, site of the Sacred Stone Camp, established April 1, 2016, as a camp of spiritual and cultural strength to stop an immoral and illegal pipeline.

VFP 111 honors the courageous historic stand indigenous people are taking to protect sacred waters and defend cultural heritage sites, ancestral lands, and Grandmother Earth herself (Unci Maka), for the sake of millions who depend on the Missouri River for critical drinking water, and for the life and health of future generations.  We respect nonviolent actions of the people, and abhor the violent, militarized repression they face.

The unrelenting assault on treaty-protected land and water and on the protectors themselves is an atrocity and must be stopped.

VFP sees the connections between greed, racism, violence and environmental destruction at home, and war and militarism abroad. We call upon our country to heed the critical conditions that exploitation and war have wrought, and to affirm and act upon the inherent rights of all peoples and of nature, by changing direction with all due diligence from a destructive carbon-based and war-filled future to one of mutual respect, sustainability and peace.

In our shared responsibility toward our common Mother Earth; our shared belief that water is life (Mni Winconi) and must be defended, and our shared commitment to a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world, Bellingham, Washington Veterans For Peace endorses and pledges sustained support for the nonviolent resistance of the sovereign Standing Rock Sioux Nation to that project which threatens their rights, and all of our shared hopes and values, that irresponsible project called Dakota Access Pipeline.

                                    Honor the treaties!  Honor reason!

Declared and affirmed by the monthly meeting of Veterans For Peace, CPL Jonathan Santos Chapter 111, Bellingham, Washington, on October 21, 2016.
