Oh, man...What a relief! When I heard this week that six Dr. Seuss books were being pulled from publication, I just knew one of them had to be The Butter Battle Book. With the Cold War allure of governments to deter attacks by potential “Zook" aggressors with threats of apocalyptic retaliation or preemptive strikes it's a wonder Theodor Geisel's 1984 antiwar book ever got published. If neoconservative narrative watchdogs had their way, and they usually do, Butter Battle would be de-shelved with If I Ran the Zoo and the rest.
Nuclear arsenals are now stocked with weapons even more destructive than any “Utterly Sputter” or "Bitsy Big-Boy Boomeroo" combined, with most being legislated by Congress for upgrades for decades to come. It might be time to order a copy of this Geisel classic before government and corporate social media censors have their way. After all, America's foreign policy DC blob does not want Dr. Seuss to continue sending our youngsters the wrong message on eating buttered bread upside or downside, or the viability of mutually assured destruction.
