Veterans For Peace has learned with sadness that Vietnam Veteran Jerry Schlaman, died of cancer at his home near Wenatchee, Washington on December 31. According to his wife, Lifetime Member Peggy Love, Jerry had been battling a rare pancreatic form of the disease for over a year and finally succumbed last month. A Lifetime Member of Veterans For Peace and friend of VFP-111, Jerry was well known for his peace activism throughout the Pacific Northwest, but particularlly for his generous support of Coffee Strong and the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action near the Trident Base at Bangor, Washington. In 2005, Jerry and Peggy also organized a weekly antiwar vigil in conservative Wenatchee that still draws Wednesday afternoon support for the VFP mission.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Veterans for Peace at 1404 N. Broadway, St. Louis MO 63102 or at veteransforpeace.org.
