On Saturday, May 17, 3-5 PM, Bellingham's Veterans for Peace Chapter 111 and Whatcom Peace and Justice Center will host Sarah L. Blum, a Vietnam War nurse and author of Warrior Nurse, Healer: PTSD and Healing, at the Bellingham Public Library Lecture Room.

Sarah L. Blum served as an operating room nurse at the 12th Evacuation Hospital in Cu Chi, Vietnam during the intense combat operations of 1967. Subsequently, she pursued a career as a nurse psychotherapist specializing in trauma resolution and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In 1983, she became one of the first women elected to the National Board of Directors of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Ms. Blum lobbied Congress to investigate the correlation between veterans' exposure to defoliants and the incidence of birth defects in their offspring.

The discussion will cover Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), including her personal experience, its manifestations, management techniques, and her role in raising awareness about PTSD and its treatment. She supports group trauma resolution therapy for PTSD.

Blum, a former psychiatric nurse, will share insights from her latest book. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about her experiences and discover strategies for addressing PTSD and moral injury to achieve healing.

“If more veterans are able to heal their PTSD with the treatment modalities Blum recommends, we will be able to reduce rates of soldier suicide and improve the quality of life for those who served. Warrior Nurse is an asset to those looking to heal their PTSD and move forward from their trauma, and to military family members who are seeking help and supporting their wounded warriors.” - Amily D’Nas
